Be Prepared For A Single Vehicle Accident Involving You And Your Car

Posted on: 17 November 2018

Being involved in an accident does not always mean that there is another party involved. In fact, many accidents occur solely due to poor visibility, mechanical malfunctions, or inclement weather. You should know what to do if you accidentally go off the road while traversing an exit rampway and wind up face to face with a guardrail.

Prepare For The Worst

Even if you are a safe driver who hasn't encountered any problems thus far, it is important to prepare for the worst. This basically means that you should cover all bases by packing a box that contains flashlights, extra batteries, rain gear, a cellular phone, a charger, emergency contact information, and food and water.

When an accident is occurring, you will be taken off guard, and it may take a few minutes for you to process what has happened. If your vehicle struck the guardrail or has even become stuck to the rail, due to a high impact that involved driving partway over the road feature, you should take note of your surroundings and carefully exit your vehicle.

Your vehicle's gas tank or the gas line leading to it could have become punctured upon impact, which could result in your vehicle catching fire. Move several feet away from your vehicle before calling one or more of the people on your emergency contact list. If you do not already have the name and number of an emergency accident towing company, the person/persons who you have called can assist with this vital step.

Don't Wander Off

It may become bothersome to be standing along the road, but you have a better chance of remaining safe and being spotted by the tow truck driver if you stay put. Wandering off could lead to another accident where you are struck by a vehicle, or you could be apprehended by someone who could potentially harm you.

If there is grass beyond the guardrail and you feel more secure about standing in it, walk on over to the grassy section with the aid of one of your flashlight's. The flashlight will also be needed when the tow truck operator approaches if you would like to give the driver a head's up concerning your whereabouts.

Let the tow truck driver assess your vehicle before hooking it up to their tow truck. After the assessment, contact your insurance provider if you have not already done so and try to remain calm concerning your vehicle's condition. Remember, your vehicle can always be repaired or replaced and try to be grateful that your life was not lost during the unfortunate incident that you were involved in.
